Hi, I'm Nina

I'm a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). While my focus is in trauma and trauma-related issues, my background is in forensic mental health. I worked in mental health departments in the federal correctional system for 5 years, where I cut my teeth working with a variety of different people and mental health issues. During that time, I also provided crisis support to frontline workers and first responders following traumatic events.

Following that, I completed the practicum for my Masters degree at the Sexual Assault Centre Kingston, working with survivors of childhood and adult sexualized violence. Throughout my education and work experience, I've supported clients with many different challenges, including depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, anger, emotion regulation, sexual violence, PTSD, and more.

My goal is to make therapy and the therapeutic space comfortable and safe for everyone by honouring your unique intersectional identity and how it plays an essential role in your experiences, worldview, and mental health.

In my personal life, I am a volunteer firefighter with Loyalist Township and an avid forager. My experience as a first responder helps to inform my approach and understanding of other first responder clients, including their unique experiences and needs. My love of the outdoors and nature also finds its way into my work through an integration of nature-centered mindfulness techniques.

My Approach

I understand that trauma presents in different ways for different people, and how important it is to be able to understand what's happening to you. I use a trauma-informed, feminist, holistic approach to psychotherapy, meaning that I work with you to identify your goals and challenges, and always place you in control of what our focus is in session. I tailor my treatment approach to your specific needs, drawing from person-centered therapy, narrative therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and dialectical behaviour therapy. I'm committed to providing the highest quality of care to all my clients and I strive to create a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your experiences and discover new ways of managing your mental health.

If you're looking for support for something other than trauma, don't worry, I can help with that too! I also support clients who need help with anxiety, mood issues, emotion regulation, relationship challenges, low self-esteem, boundaries, communication skills and more.

Reach out through my contact page if you have any questions about whether I'd be the right fit for you.
